Recap: Southwest DeKalb Panthers vs. Columbia Eagles
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers pushed their score all the way to 59 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-59 to Columbia. While losing is never fun, Southwest DeKalb can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Columbia is ranked 25th).
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sam Turner, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Azeez Bello was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Southwest DeKalb's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Columbia, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.
Southwest DeKalb will look to defend their home court on Friday against Miller Grove at 7:30 p.m. Miller Grove is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Columbia, they will head out on the road to challenge Eagle's Landing Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,158 points over their last 17 matches.
