Baseball Recap: Las Cruces Takes Down Ranked Mayfield

Las Cruces faced Mayfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldawgs had just enough and edged out the Trojans 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Bulldawgs in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.

Las Cruces got a great performance from Gunnar Guardiola as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Guardiola has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Xander Parra was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Las Cruces' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-1.
