Baseball Recap: St. George's Takes a Loss

St. George had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it 14. They came up short against the Roxbury Latin Foxes, falling 12-0. The Dragons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Foxes from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Roxbury Latin, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Roxbury Latin's part, Matt Taglieri tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. Taglieri has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Roxbury Latin got a massive performance out of Anthony Faletra, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Faletra a new career-high. Tom Pender was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, St. George's will face off against Portsmouth Abbey at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Roxbury Latin, they will venture away from home to challenge Buckingham Browne & Nichols at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
