League recap: Kossuth slips out of Mississippi top 25 rankings

3A Region 1 league recap: 5/29/12

With a rough week, Kossuth dropped out of the state's top 25 rankings. Kossuth fell from No. 15 to No. 27 after going 1-3 over the past week. The Aggies are ranked No. 1227 in the nation, and have an overall record of 27-10.

John Mitchell was on fire this week, as he led 3A Region 1 with a .389 average with six RBIs. The Aggies compiled a record of 1-3 in that time.

Kossuth boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. The Aggies have given up a mere 161 hits on the year, while striking out 329 opposing hitters. Tyler Nelms is the leader in that category with 117 Ks on the season.

Kossuth, the league leader in stolen bases this season with 64, added to its lead in that category with 15 more steals over the past week. Given the green light by manager Daniel Threadgill, Heath Wood has racked up 29 steals on his own this season for the Aggies.

Kossuth's Josh Whitaker finished his week with eight hits, tops in the league. His 34 hits for the year are fourth in the league, and he boasts a .296 batting average.



Tyler Nelms threw a shutout as he led Southeast Lauderdale to victory over Kossuth, 6-3, on Tuesday. He struck out 13, allowing three hits.
