Volleyball Recap: Providence Pioneers vs. Floyd Central Highlanders

After flying high against Columbus East last Thursday, Providence came back down to earth. The Providence Pioneers fell just short of the Floyd Central Highlanders by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Providence took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 18-25, 27-29, 25-10, 15-10.

Even though they lost, Providence was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0 aces per game earlier this season, but in their last five matches they've averaged 8.2.

Floyd Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenzig Mckinley led the charge by getting 13 digs and five aces. The dominant performance gave Mckinley a new career-high in aces.

Providence dropped their record down to 7-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Floyd Central, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.

Providence will venture away from home to take on Oldham County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Floyd Central, they will face off against Brownstown Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brownstown Central will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Floyd Central surely won't give up without a fight.
