Softball Game Preview: Wallenpaupack Area Buckhorns vs. Scranton Knights

Wallenpaupack Area is 9-1 against Scranton since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Buckhorns will host the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Wallenpaupack Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Wallenpaupack Area turned things around against West Scranton on Friday. They blew past the Invaders 9-3. Considering the Buckhorns have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Clara Babyak was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Decker, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Kielbasa, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Scranton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They came up short against Abington Heights, falling 17-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 22, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Wallenpaupack Area's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Scranton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Wallenpaupack Area took their victory against Scranton in their previous matchup on April 3rd by a conclusive 17-0 score. Will the Buckhorns repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
