Softball Recap: Bedford Has No Trouble Against Somerset

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Forest Hills, Bedford was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Somerset Eagles 9-3. Considering the Bisons have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Byers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lara Bulger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Bailey Mickle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Bulger wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Bedford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. Bedford is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Bedford back to even at 3-3. As for Somerset, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bedford will venture away from home to challenge Bishop McCort at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Somerset, they will head out to take on Allegany at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
