Basketball Game Preview: Wakefield Wolverines vs. Lake Norman Wildcats

The Wakefield Wolverines will face off against the Lake Norman Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Wakefield sitting on 18 straight victories and Lake Norman on 21.

Wakefield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 31-23 win over Hoggard. The 31-point effort marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Lyla Bagwell was the offensive standout of the contest as she posted nine points and five boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Aly Schaffer was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, Lake Norman faced McDowell in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Lake Norman snuck past McDowell with a 58-52 victory.

Lake Norman's win came from a few key players Wakefield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alexis Shehan, who went 8-for-16 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayana Minard, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 17 points and four steals.

Lake Norman pushed their record up to 29-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 38.4 points. As for Wakefield, their victory bumped their record up to 26-3.
