Basketball Recap: Eastern Eagles vs. Caldwell Redskins
Eastern lost against Caldwell back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Eastern Eagles took a 69-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Caldwell Redskins. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 537th, while the Redskins are ranked 225th).
Carter Wheeldin was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds for Caldwell. That's the most points Wheeldin has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Guiler Preston, who posted 14 points.
Eastern's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-8. As for Caldwell, they moved to 14-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern will venture away from home to take on Federal Hocking at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastern is facing Federal Hocking at the right time seeing as Federal Hocking is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Caldwell, they will head out on the road to challenge Frontier at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Frontier is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
