Baseball Recap: Canton Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Canton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Beardstown Tigers 11-10. The win was just business as usual for the Little Giants, who after three games remain undefeated this season.

Kash Van Houten made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Van Houten was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other pitching news, Brody Ketcham looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colin Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Blessman, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.

Canton pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Beardstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Canton will challenge Camp Point Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Beardstown, they are taking a road trip to challenge Rushville-Industry at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
