Softball Recap: Carrollton Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

Carrollton put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let the Beardstown Tigers get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Give the Hawks' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Lauren Flowers made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Carrollton got a big performance out of Vanna Holmes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hannah Uhles, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Carrollton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 13 consecutive contests.

Carrollton's win was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Beardstown, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Carrollton and Beardstown should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Hawks will face off against North Greene at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (15 vs. 381). Meanwhile, Beardstown (ranked 197th) will meet Astoria/VIT (ranked 416th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
