Softball Recap: Klein Cain Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Klein Cain can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against the Klein Forest Eagles by a score of 9-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 back in March.

Kameryn Byrd was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Byrd was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amia Shead, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmine Freeman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Klein Cain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Klein Forest only posted an OBP of .355.

Klein Cain's victory bumped their record up to 8-15. As for Klein Forest, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 15 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Klein Cain will host Klein Collins at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: the Hurricanes have lost three straight at home , while the Tigers have lost three on the road. As for Klein Forest, they will take on Incarnate Word Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
