Baseball Game Preview: Williamsville Bullets vs. Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs

The Williamsville Bullets will take on the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Williamsville is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Williamsville fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Springfield Southeast on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bullets have suffered since April 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, Deer Creek-Mackinaw can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Princeville by a score of 13-8.

Parker Eggenberger made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Deer Creek-Mackinaw's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 10-14 when he doesn't). Eggenberger was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Keagan Brown tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Lucas Holly, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Noe, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw's victory bumped their record up to 12-15. As for Williamsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.

Williamsville skirted past Deer Creek-Mackinaw 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Do the Bullets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chiefs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
