Softball Preview: Hillsboro Hawks vs. Cor Jesu Academy

Hillsboro has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will host Cor Jesu Academy at 4:15 p.m. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Hillsboro's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Jefferson 10-0.

Ashley Hilton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in OBP. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Lorelei Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sophie Errante, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Hillsboro hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson struck out 14 times.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cor Jesu Academy). They were the clear victor by a 21-0 margin over Ursuline Academy on Thursday. Considering Cor Jesu Academy has won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lillian Paur looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Cor Jesu Academy got a massive performance out of Beau Belz, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two doubles, and a run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Grimm, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Hillsboro has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Cor Jesu Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Hillsboro suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Cor Jesu Academy in their previous matchup back in September. Can Hillsboro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
