Preview: Burbank Titans vs. Cordova Lancers
The Burbank Titans just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Cordova Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
Burbank waltzed into their game Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They enjoyed a cozy 71-53 win over Chavez. Given Burbank's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Chavez is ranked 773rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Michael Butcher continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 6-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten assists. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Sitaniselao Moa, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cordova scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 76-41 win over Rosemont. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Cordova has managed all season.
Burbank is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Cordova, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-5.
Burbank took their victory against Cordova in their previous meeting back in November by a conclusive 70-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Burbank since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
