Football Recap: Alma Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Alma had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 40-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Van Buren Pointers. If the Airedales were looking for revenge after losing 37-27 to the Pointers when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leading Van Buren to victory were Austin Riggs and Hayden Christenberry. Riggs picked up 116 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Christenberry rushed for 226 yards. The dominant performance also gave Riggs a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two). Tristan Ray also helped with two scores in total.

Looking ahead, Alma will square off against Siloam Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Van Buren, they will face off against Springdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
