Baseball Recap: Freer Comes Up Short

If Freer was riding high fresh off their 16-5 takedown of La Villa last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Freer Buckaroos fell just short of the Dilley Wolves by a score of 9-8 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buckaroos of the 2-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Alex Gonzalez and Isaac Gonzales did some serious damage despite the final result: Gonzalez scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Gonzales scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Gonzalez has become a key player for Freer: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

Even though they lost, Freer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. This was only their second loss (out of six games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Freer has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. Dilley's record is now 8-3.

Coming up, Freer will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Premont at 12:00 p.m. Premont will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Freer surely won't give up without a fight. As for Dilley, they will head out to face off against Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hondo's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Dilley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
