Baseball Game Preview: Hickory Grove Christian Lions vs. A.C. Reynolds Rockets

The Hickory Grove Christian Lions will venture away from home to square off against the A.C. Reynolds Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hickory Grove Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Hickory Grove Christian barely beat Asheville Christian Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Hickory Grove Christian put the hurt on Asheville Christian Academy with a sharp 10-2 victory on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Hickory Grove Christian considering their one-run performance the game before.

Ben Green made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hickory Grove Christian is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Green was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Dean Colston was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Nathan Dowdy was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Hickory Grove Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, A.C. Reynolds was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 7-4 to Asheville.

A.C. Reynolds' loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Hickory Grove Christian, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
