Baseball Recap: Barbourville Tigers vs. McCreary Central Raiders
Barbourville had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 14-13 to make it seven. They came up short against the McCreary Central Raiders, falling 11-4. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 8-4 to the Raiders when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Caiden Miracle made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Luke Hillard, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for McCreary Central, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-14. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
On McCreary Central's side, they got a great performance from Riley Newman as he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, Newman posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Tristen West was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Joshua Weaver was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Coming up, Barbourville will take on Knox Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McCreary Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
