Calvary Christian Academy falls despite strong effort from Diaya Armantrading

Calvary Christian Academy struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Greenwood Mennonite Flames had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. 2024 welcomed Calvary Christian Academy with a 50-28 loss courtesy of Greenwood Mennonite. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Calvary Christian Academy has suffered against Greenwood Mennonite since January 13, 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Calvary Christian Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Diaya Armantrading. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of Calvary Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Brooke Watson (HS) was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two blocks.

Laci Mast continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Greenwood Mennonite, scoring 29 points along with nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mast has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Troyer, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Calvary Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Christian Academy will take on Chestertown Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they will head out on the road to challenge Holly Grove Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Holly Grove Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
