Preview: Cairo Pilots vs. Frankfort Redbirds
The Cairo Pilots's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Frankfort Redbirds at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Cairo suffered their biggest loss since November 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 79-36 loss at the hands of Marion. While losing is never fun, Cairo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 611th, while Marion is ranked 130th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maceo Childs, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was McKenlee Pirtle, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Frankfort pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 63-55 to Anna-Jonesboro. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Frankfort in their matchups with Anna-Jonesboro: they've now lost three in a row.
Cairo's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-10. As for Frankfort, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Cairo came up short against Frankfort in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 67-58. Can Cairo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
