Football Recap: Manchester Starts Season with Win Against Northwestern

Manchester had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 33-21 victory over the Northwestern Tigers on Friday. This was payback for the Squires, who suffered a 19-14 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Eli Metzger was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 137 receiving yards and one touchdown. That's the most receiving yards he has posted since back in August of 2024.

Manchester didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Northwestern to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Squires weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 71.4%.

Jayden West and Colin Cook certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. West picked up 85 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while Cook threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns. West showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 58 yards.

Coming up, Manchester will head out on the road to square off against Bluffton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northwestern, they will welcome Eastern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
