Football Recap: Freeport Starts off Right with Win over North Bay Haven Academy

Freeport gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the North Bay Haven Academy Buccaneers 54-13. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Bulldogs had established a 35-point advantage.

A big part of Freeport's win came down to the chemistry between Carter Nunes and his top target Julius Miles. Nunes threw for 300 yards and five TDs while completing 73.7% of his passes while Miles picked up 201 receiving yards and four scores. Those four receiving touchdowns gave Miles a new career-high. Dylan Louthain was another key player, rushing for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Freeport didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited North Bay Haven Academy to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Bryant Robbins and Oliver Boyko, who each logged one passes deflected. Freeport wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 73.9%.

Freeport didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Marlon Castillo and Caleb Leonard.

When it comes to explaining why North Bay Haven Academy lost, don't look at Caleb Muszynski. Despite the final result, he rushed for 81 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries, and also threw for 143 yards on eight of 15 attempts. 83 of Muszynski's passing yards were hauled in by Fame Walker.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Freeport will challenge Jay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Bay Haven Academy, they will take on North Florida Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
