Basketball Game Preview: Coventry Oakers vs. North Smithfield Northmen

The Coventry Oakers and the North Smithfield Northmen will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Coventry will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Coventry beat East Greenwich 54-48. The 54-point effort marked the Oakers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Coventry can attribute much of their success to Brayden Martin, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists, and Tyler Broady, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Martin's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Meanwhile, North Smithfield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 55-49 to Central Falls.

North Smithfield now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Coventry, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Coventry came up short against North Smithfield when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 60-55. Can Coventry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
