Preview: Columbia Wildcats vs. Ocracoke Dolphins
The Columbia Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Ocracoke Dolphins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
Columbia unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak. They were dealt a 74-45 loss at the hands of Bear Grass Charter. Columbia was down 55-34 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Columbia's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Sawyer, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Ariyeh Spencer who scored 17 points along with six assists and three steals. Sawyer is crushing the block category: he's posted at least five every time he's taken the court this season. Maurice Holloway was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Ocracoke put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mattamuskeet 59-28 at home. Winning may never get old, but Ocracoke sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Columbia now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Ocracoke, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Columbia came up short against the Dolphins in their previous matchup back in January, falling 72-61. Can Columbia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
