Softball Game Preview: South Adams Starfires vs. Eastbrook Panthers

The South Adams Starfires will venture away from home to take on the Eastbrook Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. South Adams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Eastbrook's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

South Adams barely beat Adams Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Starfires blew past the Flying Jets 15-5 on Thursday. The Starfires might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Bekah Patterson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Neuenschwander, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

South Adams hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Adams Central struck out seven times.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Eastbrook challenged Alexandria-Monroe on Thursday. The Panthers lost 10-3 to the Tigers. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alyvia Pumroy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for South Adams and bumps their season record up to 16-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Eastbrook, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. South Adams hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Eastbrook struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

South Adams suffered a grim 15-9 defeat to Eastbrook in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Starfires avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
