Port Washington is 2-8 against West Bend West since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Pirates will face off against the Spartans at 4:45 p.m. Port Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Port Washington will bounce into Monday's game after beating Nicolet, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Pirates came out on top against the Knights by a score of 10-6 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Port Washington let Carson Page and Jack Bunyan run wild. Page went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Bunyan went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That triple was Page's first of the season. Kyle Uselding was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Port Washington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nicolet struck out six times.
West Bend West came out on top against Hartford on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Spartans skirted past the Orioles 6-4. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three contests in a row.
West Bend West also got a great performance from Brody Renk as he tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave Renk a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Abresch, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddex Welzien, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
West Bend West's record is now 4-2-1. As for Port Washington, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Port Washington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like West Bend West struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Port Washington came up short against West Bend West in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
