Baseball Recap: West Jefferson Comes Up Short

West Jefferson extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-12 in the process. They came up short against the Salmon Savages, falling 18-4. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Savages this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-1 loss two weeks ago.

As for Salmon, they moved to 5-9-1 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

For Salmon's part, Kesl Severe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Severe was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. He has become a key player for Salmon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-9-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Clayton Allen was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Gauge Stephenson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

West Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Salmon, they will challenge Challis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Savages' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
