Basketball Recap: Pahrump Valley Takes a Loss

If Pahrump Valley was feeling good fresh off their 48-11 takedown of American Heritage Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pahrump Valley Trojans fell 47-37 to the Boulder City Eagles on Wednesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-32 last Saturday.

Despite the loss, Pahrump Valley still got an impressive performance from Ryleigh Denton, who posted 17 points along with eight boards and four steals. Denton has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Riley Saldana was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Boulder City found their leader in sophomore Makenzie Martorano, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martorano has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Soares, who had four points.

Pahrump Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 26.3% in those games and 33% outside of them. As for Boulder City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Pahrump Valley will host Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pahrump Valley is facing Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon at the right time seeing as Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Boulder City, they will head out to take on Sports Leadership & Management at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
