Basketball Recap: Port Gibson Comes Up Short

Port Gibson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 60-34 to the South Pike Eagles. The Blue Waves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Port Gibson lost, don't look at Ger'Kiya Flowers. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Neal, who scored four points and seven boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Pike to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shalia Johnson, who had ten points and seven steals. That's the most steals Johnson has posted since back in November of 2023. Kenyia Walker was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Port Gibson's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for South Pike, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-7.

Port Gibson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-40 defeat against Franklin County on the 17th. As for South Pike, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-30 win against Wesson on the 16th.
