Basketball Recap: American Fork Takes a Loss

American Fork was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels, falling 66-43. If the Cavemen were looking for revenge after losing 64-40 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mountain Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kya Newton led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine assists. Those nine assists gave Newton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Maynard, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds.

American Fork's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Mountain Ridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. American Fork will venture away from home to square off against Olympus at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Olympus will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something American Fork surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mountain Ridge, they will head out to challenge Westlake at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Westlake likes a good challenge.
