Baseball Recap: Hamburg's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Hamburg was forced to take a big defeat against they on Tuesday, they got the better of them on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Starpoint Spartans 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 3rd.

Dylan Monczynski tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jimmy Steffen, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jonah Moscato, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win snapped Hamburg's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-6-1 record. As for Starpoint, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hamburg will face off against Lake Shore at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Starpoint, they will square off against Niagara Falls at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wolverines will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
