Volleyball Game Preview: Columbus Cardinals vs. Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

The Columbus Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Columbus has 17 straight victories, Nixon-Smiley has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Columbus proved they can win big on Friday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Sealy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since August 28th.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Columbus got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 27-29, 25-14, 21-25, 15-9.

Meanwhile, Nixon-Smiley came up short against Poth on Friday, falling 3-0.

Nixon-Smiley's defeat dropped their record down to 13-20. As for Columbus, their win bumped their record up to 37-4.

Everything went Columbus' way against Nixon-Smiley in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, as Columbus made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
