Baseball Recap: Sarcoxie Comes Up Short

Sarcoxie extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-9 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Ash Grove Pirates. If the Bears were looking for revenge after losing 10-3 to the Pirates when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Ash Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The result was nothing new for Ash Grove, who have now won three matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For Ash Grove's part, Kyler Reece made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Reece was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ash Grove let Ty Messley and Jaden Shorter run wild. Messley went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Shorter went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alex Acosta, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Looking ahead, Sarcoxie will welcome Spokane at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Ash Grove, they will head out to challenge New Heights Christian Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
