Softball Preview: San Antonio Christian Lions vs. Holy Cross Knights
San Antonio Christian is 2-8 against Holy Cross since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lions will be playing at home against the Knights at 5:00 p.m.
San Antonio Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Providence Catholic on Thursday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Provets.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Cross). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Geneva an 18-0 shutout on Monday. The win was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on three straight.
Haven Castillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Leena Garcia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Genesis Medrano was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Holy Cross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .792. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
San Antonio Christian's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Holy Cross, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
