Soccer Recap: Hueneme Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Rio Mesa

Hueneme lost to Rio Mesa back in December of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Hueneme Vikings' defense stepped up to hand the Rio Mesa Spartans a 1-0 shutout. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Vikings' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 802nd, while the Spartans are ranked 206th).

Hueneme's record is now 2-6-2. As for Rio Mesa, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-5.

Hueneme will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Santa Paula at 6:00 p.m. on January 15, 2025. As for Rio Mesa, they wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and have already played their next game, a 1-0 defeat against Knight on the 28th.
