Baseball Recap: Houston Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Palmer, Houston was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hutchison a 15-0 shutout. With that win, Houston brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Ethan Spencer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Houston's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-0-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Spencer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Houston got a massive performance out of Sebastian Sanford, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Sanford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ty Sonnentag, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Houston back to even at 4-4-1. As for Hutchison, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Houston will take on Grace Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hutchison, they will venture away from home to take on Redington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Huskies have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
