Basketball Recap: Lumberton Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

Lumberton extended their home winning streak to seven games thanks to a huge performance from Jaiden Shephard. The Lumberton Pirates walked away with a 63-50 win over the South View Tigers on Friday thanks in part to Shephard, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 17 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 41 games he's played dating back to last season.

Christopher Hammonds was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in boards.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Antrell Gilmore, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Mills, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Lumberton is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for South View, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 12-7 record.

Lumberton and South View should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Lumberton (ranked 114th) will meet Gray's Creek (ranked 508th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, South View will challenge Purnell Swett at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 357 places (177 vs. 534).
