Basketball Recap: Kevin Bryant's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Statesville over East Lincoln

Statesville lost against East Lincoln on January 3rd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Statesville Greyhounds fell 77-64 to the East Lincoln Mustangs. The Greyhounds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Statesville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kevin Bryant, who went 7 for 15 en route to 14 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Cauthen, who posted eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Statesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Lincoln to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jackson Fannon, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Gaige Ikard, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists.

Statesville's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8. As for East Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Statesville and East Lincoln should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Statesville (ranked 163rd) will meet Foard (ranked 592nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Statesville is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Similarly, East Lincoln will take on West Iredell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 215 places (131 vs. 346). Statesville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.3 points per game this season.
