Softball Recap: Greenwood's Win Ends 11-Game Losing Streak at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenwood). They blew past the East Juniata Tigers 13-6 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Makenzie Devore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Jayden Brosius and Nicole Herr did most of the damage at the plate: Brosius went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Herr went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Herr a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Kessler, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Greenwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Greenwood's win ended an 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12. As for East Juniata, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Greenwood will look to defend their home field on Monday against Juniata at 4:30 p.m. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.88 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Juniata, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bucktail at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Bucks have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
