Baseball Recap: Lakeview Gators vs. Northwood Gators

Lakeview had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 12-13 to make it six. They lost 14-2 to Northwood. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Northwood this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-11 back in March.

As for Northwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The result was nothing new for Northwood, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Northwood's part, Braxten McFarlain made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. McFarlain has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Northwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jesus Gonzales was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Randall Carraway was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeview will face off against Mansfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.13 runs per game on average), something the Gators will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northwood, they will square off against Rapides at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
