Basketball Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Lugoff-Elgin had lost three straight headed into Friday's match, but Kendra Wilson didn't let it get to four. The Lugoff-Elgin Demons took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 61-34 victory over the St. Johns Country Day Spartans thanks in part to Wilson, who went 13 of 22 on her way to 27 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Samuel, who posted 11 points and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played.

Despite the defeat, St. Johns Country Day saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kendall Proffitt almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine boards. That was a full 82.4% of St. Johns Country Day's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Lugoff-Elgin's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for St. Johns Country Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.

Lugoff-Elgin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-53 victory against Cardinal Newman on the 28th. As for St. Johns Country Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 37-28 win against Cathedral Academy on the 28th.
