Softball Game Preview: Loranger Wolves vs. Sumner Cowboys

Loranger hasn't had much luck against Sumner recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolves are taking a road trip to face off against the Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. Loranger will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Loranger took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Swamp Owls on Tuesday.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Sumner and Pine, and Sumner kept the tradition alive. The Cowboys were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Raiders on Tuesday. Considering the Cowboys have won 20 matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Loranger pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sumner, their victory bumped their record up to 21-4.

Everything went Loranger's way against Sumner when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Loranger made off with an 18-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
