Football Recap: Cori Tonte Key Part of Team Effort in Grizzly Cubs Win

Franklin Community won the last time they faced Mt. Vernon and things went their way on Friday too. The Grizzly Cubs took down the Marauders 27-13. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzly Cubs.

Franklin Community got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cori Tonte out in front who rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns. Those 152 rushing yards gave Tonte a new career-high. Greyson Betts was another key signal caller, throwing for 181 yards and one TD on only ten passes.

Franklin Community didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kelvin English and Isaiah Stultz. Another thorn in Mt. Vernon's side was Blake Smythe, who picked up 1.5 sacks, made six total tackles, and defended one pass.

Franklin Community's record now sits at 2-0. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Franklin Community and Mt. Vernon will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Grizzly Cubs are set to face off against their familiar foe Perry Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon will challenge rival Greenfield-Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
