Softball Game Preview: Faith Academy Rams vs. Mary G. Montgomery Vikings

The Faith Academy Rams will be taking part in a tournament against the Mary G. Montgomery Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Faith Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Mary G. Montgomery's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Faith Academy's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over St. Paul's Episcopal. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Mary G. Montgomery entered their tilt with Baker on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 4-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Malena Simonson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Simonson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee White, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Alexis Pierce was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Faith Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Mary G. Montgomery, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11.

Faith Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Mary G. Montgomery in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
