Recap: Our Lady of the Elms Panthers vs. St. Martin de Porres Lions

The Our Lady of the Elms Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime match against the St. Martin de Porres Lions on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Our Lady of the Elms lost against St. Martin de Porres in their previous head to head back in January of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 74-21 score last time.

Our Lady of the Elms' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Pilar Hampton, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 48.9% of Our Lady of the Elms' points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Palmer Hampton was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists and three steals.

Lyric Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Martin de Porres, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasandra Colon-Cintron, who scored four points along with eight steals.

Our Lady of the Elms has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for St. Martin de Porres, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Our Lady of the Elms will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lawrence Upper at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. As for St. Martin de Porres, they will look to defend their home court on Sunday against Cleveland Central Catholic at 11:30 a.m. Cleveland Central Catholic is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
