Baseball Game Preview: Midway Green Wave vs. Oliver Springs Bobcats

The Midway Green Wave will venture away from home to take on the Oliver Springs Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Midway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Midway needed a bit of extra time to put away Oliver Springs. They had just enough and edged out the Bobcats 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Green Wave have posted since March 28, 2024.

Rowynn McClure made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. He has become a key player for Midway: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 2-5 otherwise. McClure was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

McClure wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Steele, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Steele hit this season.

Midway pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oliver Springs, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2.
