Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Pender's Winning Streak

Pender fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Fairmont on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Tornadoes by a score of 9-8. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Golden Tornadoes earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Charleigh Rivenbark was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Haley Gantt was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Pender moved to 10-4 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Fairmont, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-6 record this season.

Pender will welcome Whiteville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fairmont, they have already played their next contest, a 7-1 defeat against Midway on the 4th.
