League recap: Frosceno overpowering for Derby in past week

Naugatuck Valley - Brass's top pitcher this week was Derby's Sal Frosceno. Over the past week, he had two wins and nine Ks.

The Red Raiders (18-2, 9-2) are riding a league-best 4-game winning streak. The streak was extended by another three games over the past week, including a 14-1 win over Platt RVT. Frosceno led the Red Raiders' offense with five hits and six RBIs this week.

Derby boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, the Red Raiders have allowed just 53 hits, while striking out 143 batters. Raymond Kreiger leads the Red Raiders with 81 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched.

The week's strikeout crown belonged to Adam Merritt, who turned in 18 Ks for Seymour. With 25 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks fifth in the league.



Merritt led the league with seven hits this week for the Wildcats. His nine hits for the year are seventeenth in the league, and he boasts a .409 batting average.

Kyle Dube drove in four runners as Derby defeated St. Paul Catholic 10-4 on Friday.
