Softball Recap: Durham's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Durham dropped their record down to 16-6-1 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Nicolaus Spartans. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Trojans, who until this match were averaging 3.78 runs allowed.

Durham saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashley Spence, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

As for East Nicolaus, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

On East Nicolaus' side, Stevie Knight was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 6.2 innings pitched. Knight has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Richie Farris was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Sotelo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Durham will take on Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for East Nicolaus, they will challenge Yuba City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Honkers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
